First ever podcast! Free fiction!

I've been writing science fiction shorts for a workshop I'm doing, trying to get back into fiction writing, and I thought it might be cool if I put some readings up.

Here's me reading my short story "Transcript of the Best, Most Powerful Symposium Presentation That Is Strong, Funny, and Promises To Respect You In The Morning"

I hope this turns out okay - this is my first time doing anything like this, soooo... let me know. Troubleshooting if you find anything would be good, too.

If this goes well, I'll start putting others up, maybe early versions of stuff I'm working on, and so forth.

Hey Derek, I thought that reading was really good. The only problem was that it was pretty hard to hear. But besides that good job and I look forward to listening to more of those in the future.

I'm sorry, I don't have a blogspot account, and didn't want to create one to leave a message. This is seank100, occasional poster on ussm.
The piece is funny, smart, and very detailed. Coach Owens is right, you're not easy to hear, but I think that has to do more with your voice than anything else. Speaking of voice, I think this would be funnier to read. I just didn't get a lot of inflection in your voice - the only problem is that I couldn't tell if this was intentional, that you were "playing" a monotone researcher or if this is just you (that sounds harsher than intended). Also, it seems rushed, and that you are perhaps swallowing your words occasionally. I get the impression that you were uncomfortable with putting this down on audio. Again, not knowing you well, I can't say if this is just you.

Thanks.

I think part of it was the setup: I sat down and gave it a shot, without knowing how the mic would pick up, all that good stuff, and then I encoded it, gave it a quick listen to make sure it was audible, and go.

Generally, when I read live I do really well. I'll see if I can't do a better recording for the next one.
